Therapy for individuals and families, with a focus on relationships and recovery. Increasingly in recent years, my therapy work has focused on supporting adults in recovery and individuals and families dealing with relationship challenges or addiction issues. Outside of my private practice, I have worked at adolescent/young adult treatment centers, providing therapy and supporting families to navigate the best care for addiction treatment services. I am also available via phone to support people in other areas as a consultant in the treatment/recovery process.
I have had four years’ intensive training as a therapist for youth and worked for 15 years as a non-profit director/educator with children and adolescents, so I welcome these young people (and their parents!) to my practice as well.
My ongoing training is in Gestalt, which focuses on relational patterns in the present. Developmental, psychoanalytic, and attachment theories also inform my work; we do explore some of your past to see how current patterns may have developed. The goal is to increase your awareness of your own perceptions, reactions, true desires, and learned behaviors so that you can have more choice in how you respond to others and begin to build the relationships and life you really want.
In working with addiction, relational issues, and emotional regulation, I may also use DBT-informed skills and Emotionally Focused Therapy/tapping techniques.
And of course, I try bring my humility, humor, and compassion to every session.
